Londoner Emily Radley is eager to begin the social whirl of Christmas, 1895…but her plans are shattered when she learns that her Aunt Susannah is dying. Traveling to Connemara, Ireland, to aid her in her final days, Emily senses a strange disquiet in the town, which is amplified when Daniel, the lone survivor of a storm-wrecked ship, finds refuge in her aunt’s house.
Determined to understand why the village is so unwelcoming to its new arrival, Emily discovers strange parallels with the unsolved death of another young man, Connor, seven years before. Desperate to unearth the secret poisoning her town, Susannah urges Emily to dig deeper. And as she does, Emily learns that some people will do anything to keep their secrets safe.

This was my first Anne Perry book and I must say that I enjoyed it very much. It was light reading and gave a homey, comfortable feeling. It was relaxing and yet kept you wondering who the killer was and why he/she was being protected. The characters were very likable and you could see yourself being friends with them. The connection between Emily and Susannah was very touching.

I have read all of the Anne Perry Christmas Novellas. I look forward to them every year. This is not my favorite, but an excellent book with an uplifting story.

This short book, and the other Christmas stories, gives readers a chance to see Perry's main characters in a more intimate light.

I enjoyed this latest Christmas tale from Anne Perry. As always, solid characters, good twists, great detail
putting the reader right in the locale. I can't wait for next year's
edition.
