Dear John

In Nicholas Sparks’ Dear John, a rebellious young man named John Tyree enlists in the Army. When he meets Savannah Curtis, their attraction grows into a deep, powerful love. John longs to settle down with her, and she’s willing to wait for him while he finishes his tour of duty. However, on September 11, 2001, everything changes. John feels he must re-enlist, and the couple’s long separation proves a fateful one, as Savannah falls in love with another man. Soon comes the inevitable “Dear John” letter—and this soldier’s heart is broken.

When John finally returns home, he struggles to come to grips with the fact that Savannah has a new life. Soon he'll face the most heart-rending decision of his life—and find out what true love means.

I cried like nothing else
August 04, 2010

I am soooo glad I read the book before I saw the movie because the book is so well-planned and thought out until the very last detail. The movie was ok, but should've followed the book more carefully to have received a bigger audience.

story about true love.....but so sad
July 30, 2010

I love Nicholas Sparks' books. There is always sadness within the story but love usually conquers. While I enjoyed reading this book, I found the ending profoundly sad.

I loved reading the book. It was one of those books you just couldn't put down. i also watch the movie, but didn't enjoy it. There was so much missing in the movie from the book, and there were changes.

Only 4 stars
June 01, 2010

I never know if Nicholas Sparks' books will end happily or disappointing, which is probably why I keep reading them. This one was a beautifully written love story but the ending depressed me. I like to feel good after finishing a book. Happy endings get 5 stars. I'm skipping the movie.
