I remember reading (and loving!) Madeline when I was a little girl. I bought this book to read to my neices, and they seem to like it. I got them interested in Madeline when I showed the movie to them (not the cartoon, but the newer movie). I have to say, I was a tiny bit disappointed by the fact that this book rhymes, or more so the WAY it rhymes. It's a little tediously written, rearranging sentences and words to rhyme. That in and of itself isn't always bad, but this book can be a little hard to younger children to understand and follow, which we all know: quickly causes boredom. My neices are 5, 7, and 11. This is not a book that any of them request now that we've read it thru once.

I bought this for my 7 year old daughter who has loved the Madeline books since she was 3. The original Madeline was her first book to memorize cover to cover and pretend to read. As with the others she loved this one as well, and reads it all the time.

I grew up with Madeline and all her fantastic adventures in Paris. Now Ludwig Bemelmans' descendant is continuing the great tradition of teaching us all about a city from the adventures of a little girl. I love it and feel as if I've actually been there after reading the book. Where are the other books? I must have them for my grandchildren.
