Norman Davies brings an unusual perspective to his studies of World War II-unusual, that is, for a British historian. His special interest is in Central and Eastern Europe, and in books like No Simple Victory he focuses on what he feels is the main story of the War: not the Blitz, D-Day or the Battle of the Bulge, but the huge and savage struggle between the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany. A Fellow of the British Academy, the Royal Historical Society, and a professor emeritus at London University, he divides his times between homes in Britain and Poland.
